Zuheros Tourist Information:

Zuheros is a municipality in the province of Córdoba, in Andalusia, Spain. The town of Zuheros has preserved one of the most striking historical sites in the province of Córdoba, thanks to the extraordinary conservation of the traditional layout, which blends perfectly with its beautiful natural surroundings.

History of Zuheros:

Zuheros was founded during the Islamic rule and protected by the fortress located on an overlooking outcrop, designed to defend the border between Córdoba and the kingdom of Granada.

Zuheros places of interest:

The old castle’s TORRE DEL HOMENAJE (or Homage Tower) overlooks the town from a high outcrop, standing out as the most striking building and, likewise, becoming the emblematic image of the town. The PALACIO RENACENTISTA (or Renaissance Palace), located on the other side of the walled enclave, and the LOS REMEDIOS PARISH CHURCH represent two points of artistic interest in the town, alongside the fantastic traditional network of streets and architecture.

· Traditional Architecture:

The town is divided into three areas, in line with the traditional design: the Arab neighbourhood, with a typ cally irregular Islamic layout; the area of expansion, from the 18th century, originally made of up large blocks and the bank side area, with irregular plots.

The boundary of the historical site takes in virtually all the town, extending over around seven hectares in total. Only a few modern constructions that are not in keeping with the rest of the town are not included.

There is nowhere better to start your visit of Zuheros than in one of its streets, such as Calle Pozo, Llana, Mirador, Horno, La Torre, Barrera, Cerrillo, Hoya or Santo.

The rural landscape of the surrounding area can be appreciated from a number of lookout spots such as la Villa, las Escominillas or Plaza de la Paz, a picturesque setting overlooked by the rocky escarpment on which the old Arab castle sits. Nearby is the façade of the parish church of Nuestra Señora de los Remedios, a temple with a single nave built in the 16th century and remodelled in the baroque period, and home to images of the patron saint and Our Lady of the Rosary from the end of the 16th century.
