General Information of Montoro:

Montoro is a municipality in the province of Cordoba, in Andalusia, Spain. The first thing that attracts your attention in Montoro is its privileged location, thanks to which this town of the Alto Guadalquivir area has been an important human settlement since prehistoric times.

In 1969, Montoro was listed for its historical and artistic heritage, in recognition of its architecture, characterised by the use of the molinaza stone (a purple-col ured, sandy stone) and its unique setting, where sierra, river and countryside all come together. All this makes Montoro a very picturesque town and has led to its being known as “Andalusia’s Toledo”.

The river Guadalquivir flows round the town, which is overlooked by the red SAN BARTOLOMÉ TOWER. As well as the beauty of its landscape, Montoro is also home to a number of interesting tourist sites.

It is worth visiting the PARQUE NATURAL de CARDEÑA y MONTORO, on the central Sierra Morena, with its breathtaking landscapes that are ideal for country walks. The N-420, which takes you to Cardeña, offers views of the olive groves, pine reforestation and sweeping Mediterranean woodlands.
