Dos Torres is a municipality in the province of Cordoba, in Andalusia, Spain. This town in the Valle de los Pedroches was formed from the union of two medieval settlements, Torremilano and Torrefranca, in 1839.

The CHURCH OF NUESTRA SEÑORA DE LA ASUNCIÓN, built between the 15th and 17th centuries, is, in fact, a vestige of the old Torremilano settlement. It is located in the open, spacious PLAZA DE LA VILLA, which is also home to the casino and the AYUNTAMIENTO, or Town Hall. The CHURCH OF SANTIAGO was the parish church of Torrefranca and built in the 15th century.

Dos Torres is one of the most emblematic towns in terms of the traditional architecture of the Valle de los Pedroches. In the old town, which has been conserved over the centuries, the use of granite and the quality of the ironwork stand out, alongside interesting examples of religious architecture.

So, you can admire the exceptional architecture, which is both authentic and beautiful, in the bridges, hermitages, churches or houses with their artistic portals and remarkable lintels or the noble shields that reflect the town’s importance in the past.

The traditional architecture in Dos Torres lives on in gothicstyle elements seen in the lintels and doorways, windows and balconies. The decoration is based on curved forms, and always with granite as the characteristic raw material for construction.

The traditional houses, which are very similar throughout, are generally twostorey buildings. Indoors, these buildings follow a similar pattern with rooms off both sides of a corridor that leads out to the yard for farm animals or a small plot. The hearth was the focal point of the house and almost completely covered by a great chimney. A typical house in Dos Torres has a roof of cross vaults or half-barrel vaults and lunettes, though wooden beams are also common.

The 36-hectare area declared of Cultural Interest traces a line that starts at Avenida Doctor Cornejo and continues along Calles Real and Virgen de Loreto; Carretera de Villaralto; Ronda Milano, Calles Sol, Cruz Dorada, San Sebastián, Cantón, Milano and San Juan; Avenida Torrefranca, and Calles San Isidoro, Los Callejeros, San Bartolomé, Pradillo and Ermitas, until it circles back to the starting point.

Likewise, it is also worth visiting the surrounding ermitas (hermitages), such as Nuestra Señora de Loreto, San Roque, San Sebastián, Cristo de la Caridad and, lastly, San Bartolomé or the paleochristian basilica of Pozo de la Nieve.
