General Information:

Cedeira is a municipality in the province of A Coruña, in Galicia, Spain. The borough of Cedeira, which occupies an area of 84.86 km², is made up of the parishes of Cedeira, Cervo, Estiero, San Román, Montoxo, Piñeiro and Réoga. It is bordered to the west and north by the Atlantic Ocean, the borough of Ortigueira to the east and Cerdido and Valdoviño to the south.

Cedeira is one of the Ferrol-Ortegal region´s coastal boroughs, where magic and faith converge in a wild natural landscape. Just 12 kilometers outside the town stands the famous chapel of San Andrés de Teixido.

Visitors to the town should not leave without discovering the wild beauty of San Andrés de Teixido, the autochthonous nature of the A Capelada Mountains, its superb beach, and specially its famous restaurants, where the finest shellfish in this part of Galicia is served.

Places of Interest:

Visitors should not leave without discovering the Chapel of San Andrés de Teixido, situated some twelve or thirteen kilometres outside Cedeira. This is a magical spot where tales and the sound of the wind and sea conjure up some amazing and fascinating images. It is said that in this area, and after the September procession, the sound of the steps lost in the darkness and the laments of repelant sinners seeking pardon from the Holy Apostole can be heard. Locals fear that there can be no rest in death for those mortals who in life failed to visit the chapel to make an offering to the Saint.

Whtever you beliefs, today the chapel attracts numerous tourists and visionaries, sorcerers and believers, and it´s probably better to settle any feelings of unease and uncertainty by paying at least one visit to this chapel, which is a place of pilgimage, legend and also faith.

Festivals and events:

Of particular interest is the "Curro de la Capelada", also known as the Rapa das Bestas, which takes place on the Sunday closest to July 1st. The herds of wild horses that roam the area are rouded up for branding and their manes are also cut. Separating the foals, branding, cutting the manes of the adult horses, stallion fights, horse races and a livestock auction are some of the events that take place during this magnificient day out in contact with nature.
